I Think I Figured Out What's The Matter With President Obama ...
First, what do you call that sign in the background, considering the President's in the nuclear waste TANK with the nuclear power industry: Ironic? Overt subliminal secuction? A Freudian vid?
Evidently, the President can't seem to locate a comfortable enough pair of hush puppies, so maybe BOOTS will work better for him ... One of these days — after 2012? (Works either way ...)

The problem is that there are no workable solutions to global energy that don't rely on nuclear or fossil fuels. The need is too large for only renewable sources. So you have to balance the risk of nuclear power with the risk of climate change. Neither option is good.
You're right. Part of the solution at least is concerted global action, with the U.S. as a major participant, to tackle energy in all its dimensions, and climate change. I'm afraid that's not going to happen unless the people overthrow their government. At the polls. But the irony is that climate change, i.e. more extreme weather events, makes another nuclear plant catastrophe more likely.
Although nuclear power makes climate change less likely. As I teach my students, anyone who can figure out how to generate enough power for 7, 8, 9, billion people and minimize the environmental harm will become very rich.
Didn't Tesla do that?
