[Matthew Simpson, first president of Indiana Asbury College, presided at Lincoln's funeral. He was an associate of Francis Asbury, the first Methodist bishop in the United States. The small college headed by Rev. Simpson was named for Bishop Asbury. It was subsequently renamed to honor a rich donor, Washington C. DePauw.
