“If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations,” Palin told host Chris Plante, “then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”*head explodes*

DAMN YOU, Doc, beat me to it!
Sarah Palin, dumb as a bag of hammers.
First of all, Ms. Wasilla, the media cannot threaten First Amendment rights. Only the government can do that. Even though its scope is very broad, the motivating purpose behind the guarantee was to protect open debate and allow for critical discussions of public officials.
While on the topic, just one quick thought on "free speech." If Blogger boots us off the board, our "rights" have not been violated. If a radio/TV station fires someone for saying something stupid, or a newspaper or publishing company declines to print something, the individual's free speech rights are not involved.
Free speech involves the right, within defined limits, to speak without fear OF ARREST or SUPPRESSION by the GOVERNMENT. I have no constitutional right to speak in any particular private forum, such as through the media or here, as private parties cannot threaten or compromise constitutionally protected speech.
And I apologize to any hammers that were offended by my Palin comparison.
Don't go away mad, Sarah.
Just go away.
