Question: Thank you, Mr. President. Back on Iraq. A group of American and Iraqi health officials today released a report saying that 655,000 Iraqis have died since the Iraq war. That figure is 20 times the figure that you cited in December, at 30,000. Do you care to amend or update your figure, and do you consider this a credible report?
The President: No, I don't consider it a credible report. Neither does General Casey and neither do Iraqi officials. I do know that a lot of innocent people have died, and that troubles me and it grieves me. And I applaud the Iraqis for their courage in the face of violence. I am amazed that this is a society which so wants to be free that they're willing to -- that there's a level of violence that they tolerate. And it's now time for the Iraqi government to work hard to bring security in neighborhoods so people can feel at peace. No question, it's violent, but this report is one -- they put it out before, it was pretty well -- the methodology was pretty well discredited. But I talk to people like General Casey and, of course, the Iraqi government put out a statement talking about the report.
Yeah, nobody trusts those peer-reviewed studies published in The Lancet, you can't trust those wackos. And who ever heard of Johns Hopkins and MIT anyway?

The Bushies find a credible report if only they have the ability to present the data. For instance, the new numbers recently showing the deficit being corrected downward by more than 50%.
Oh yeah, I'm gonna trust those cowboys in presenting accurate and true data. Shit, those books were cooked and they should be investigated and prosecuted when the real truth is revealed!
The Iraqis so want to be free that they load their cars up with explosives and drive into police stations. The so want to be free the shoot (in excitement, no doubt) at their freedom doers. They so want to be free of us.
I hope those freedom wanting Iraqi's are optomistic...
(From CNN)-- The chief of the British Army has called for a pullout of British troops from Iraq and said plans for post-invasion Iraq was "probably based more on optimism."
He went on to say, "Our presence exacerbates security problems."
I DID hear that they acknowleged a very large margin of error, around 250,000 people. But even if that is true, that is over 400,000 Iraqis dead. Which is still over well over 13 times higher than the the administration's figure. Perhaps the administration should share their own methodology.
jimbo - I'm pretty sure it involves Dick Cheney and Karl Rove making shit up.
