PICK RIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.
I've wondered about Rodin's famous sculpture. Is he engaged in deep thought or sitting around wasting time? And why isn't he wearing pants? I ask the same of myself. Here we comment on well, mostly politics. Or we may just sit! If you like it, tell a friend. If not, tell us, but please read the GROUND RULES before you do.

Thanks, Peter. I want Rio too. Watching the marathon snake its way through Tijuca (the largest urban forest in the world) and Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana beaches would be a sight to behold. It would be a much-needed economic boost to the world's most beautiful city.
Plus, with Brasil hosting the World Cup of 2014, much of the organizational infrastructure for the event would be in place. But Richie Daley's persistent and the Obamas plus Oprah are persuasive.
Good Luck!
"It would be a much-needed economic boost to the world's most beautiful city."
How would it help Paris? (ducks)
The French (including many Parisians) love to visit Rio and spend lots of money.
Seriously, though. Because Brasil is a big soccer country, a lot of the infrastructure is in place, just as it was when LA hosted the Olympics.
Maracaña Stadium, a marvel of Brasilian archtecture, that looks as modern today as it did in 1950, was (and still is, by some calculations) the world's largest stadium with a capacity of 200,000 plus. Just this decade, it underwent a complete renovation and facelift, which reduced its seating capacity to about 95,000. I've watched a lot of games on Gol TV from Maracaña. It's beautiful.
So, Rio has a lot to gain. And the city does need the economic boost more than Chicago. The Windy City could end up like Montreal, with a huge bill that would take decades to liquidate after the Games are gone.
You are not alone, Pete. I think Rio's a great choice, because for anyone from Chicago who still wants to watch on TV, they won't have any screwed up time-delay issues. And maybe, just maybe, the lesser Daley will be escorted out of City Hall in tears.
Or he'll keel over, like he did onstage with Clinton. That would be more dramatic.
I have a friend from Chicago who has traveled often to Rio and a Brasillian friend from Rio who now lives in Chicago. Ask them, with their knowledge of each others cities, where they think the Olympics should be located and they both come to the same conclusion: Tokyo.
I disagree. And I was born and raised in Rio. :)
INN, your Brasilian friend must be from another part of the country, like the rival city of São Paulo. Probably jealousy, it's an old story. You can't trust something like that from a paulista or some other non-carioca.
